Our Pioneer deck in San Carlos

We installed Pioneer in Barrel Oak on this hillside deck and added aluminum cable railing along the deck and stairs. The base is closed in with Eva-Last Apex Plus in Carbonised Osage and has a storage room with its own door. Later, the homeowners had us assemble and install their chosen pergola kit on the deck.

Project cost
$100,000 to $110,000

This is the whole-project range shown on the project page, not a Pioneer decking rate. The page shows both the deck work and the later pergola; it does not split the published cost between those stages.

What is different about Pioneer decking?

Pioneer decking boards have a PVC core with glass-fiber reinforcement and a PMMA cap, according to the technical data sheet. The US brochure describes a printed surface finish with a protective wear layer. That is a surface construction, not solid wood.

The same brochure labels the fascia and riser boards Non-GFR. The reinforced-board description should not be read as a specification for every trim piece.

Pioneer colors

Eva-Last's US Indigenous Collection lists True IPE and Weathered IPE. The Classics Collection lists Barrel Oak, Natural IPE and Weathered Ash. These are published color names; current availability needs confirmation for the order.

Our San Carlos project shows Barrel Oak across the deck and stairs. It does not show an installed example of every Pioneer color.

What should I budget for a Pioneer deck?

  • New deck$50–75per sq ft
  • Full replacement$50–80per sq ft

Use the overall composite range for early planning, not as a Pioneer-specific quote. On level ground, a new composite deck runs $50 to $75 per sq ft; full replacement runs $50 to $80 per sq ft; delivery and hauling away the old deck are quoted separately. The minimum composite size on level ground is 150 sq ft.

Pioneer, like Apex Plus, usually costs more than Infinity. A raised deck, a slope or difficult access changes the cost and minimum size. The calculator gives a composite site range without a separate Pioneer rate; the written estimate, sent within 24 hours of the visit, prices your scope.

Planning a replacement with Pioneer

Whether your existing frame can stay is decided at the visit. The San Carlos project page shows the work stages and the finished surface.

A surface replacement that keeps an existing frame is a different service. If that is the scope you have in mind, ask about deck remodeling and a site-specific assessment.

The Pioneer board warranty

Pioneer boards carry a 50-year limited residential warranty from Eva-Last under the US warranty document. Conditions, exclusions and a prorated recovery schedule apply; installation and reinstallation costs are excluded from that board warranty.

MS Construction and Services provides a separate 3-year written workmanship warranty. The separate 1-year Eva-Last labor warranty is another coverage, not extra years added to either warranty.

Questions about a Pioneer project

Do you have a Pioneer deck I can look at?

Yes, the San Carlos hillside project uses Pioneer in Barrel Oak. Its page shows the previous deck, build stages and finished deck with stairs and enclosed storage.

Is Pioneer's wood pattern solid wood?

No, the brochure describes a printed surface finish with a protective wear layer on the decking board. The technical data sheet lists a reinforced PVC core and PMMA cap.

Can I see Weathered Ash on your San Carlos deck?

No, the San Carlos deck is Barrel Oak. Weathered Ash is on Eva-Last's published US Pioneer palette, but that project is not an installed example of it.

Does the San Carlos price tell me the cost of my Pioneer deck?

No, it is a whole-project range for that hillside scope. Use the composite calculator to plan your site, then request a written estimate for your own deck rather than treating that project total as a decking rate.

How can I compare Pioneer with the other lines?

Start with our Eva-Last hub for the line summaries and links to our Infinity and Apex Plus work. Our composite decking guide covers the wider brand comparison.
