The backyard climbs up to a retaining wall, and the old deck at the top was reached by a worn wooden staircase with lattice underneath. It was the only way to use the upper half of the yard, and it was tired.
We took it all out and rebuilt from the wall forward: new raised framing across the hillside, a long new staircase down to the lawn, and 1,085 sq ft of Eva-Last Pioneer in Barrel Oak on top. The whole base is closed in with 350 sq ft of dark facade boards, with a storage room and door built into it. 60 linear feet of powder-coated aluminum cable railing run along the deck and the stairs, so the view over the neighborhood stays open.
A few months later the homeowners came back to us for the next step. They chose a PERGOLUX 4 Pro Max, 10 × 13 ft, with four sliding glass walls, and we assembled and installed it on the new deck. Now the top of the yard works as an outdoor room in any weather: a deck on a hill with the view left open.
Deck completed April 2026 in 22 working days; pergola added in August 2026. We build decks across the Peninsula, from San Carlos to Hillsborough and San Mateo.
