“MS Construction and Services delivered an exceptional job on our hardwood deck and pergola complete rebuild! …”
Anna R.Angi · Oct 2025 · Cupertino

Most of what we build is deck construction and full replacement, with the stairs and railings that come with them. We are a deck specialist, not a general contractor who also does decks.

Work is done by the same crew from start to finish under a written contract — not sold on to an unrelated deck company once the paperwork is signed.

Questions Sunnyvale homeowners ask us

What Sunnyvale homeowners ask us about most: extending a deck a little, replacing the boards and the railing on an older one, and posts damaged by termites — often after a pest company has already quoted them.

Can you extend our existing deck?

It depends on the frame the new part ties into, so we look at it first. If the existing frame is sound pressure-treated wood, it can stay, and the whole deck can get new boards so old and new match. If it is untreated, rotted, termite-damaged, missing metal connectors or short of footings, replacing it is usually the better use of the money. The calculator shows both ranges.

A termite company quoted our deck posts. Can you give a second opinion?

On the wood, yes. We are a deck builder, not a pest control company: we do not write termite (WDO) reports or treat for termites. What we can tell you after a visit is which posts, beams and joists are damaged, whether a repair holds or the frame needs replacing, and what that costs in writing.

Can someone come out and inspect our deck?

We come out for free to scope a project: frame, footings, connectors, boards, stairs and railings, and we tell you whether it is a repair, new boards on the old frame, or a replacement. It is an estimate visit, not a certified inspection report.

Do you have projects in Sunnyvale?

Not on this site yet, and we will not show another town’s deck as a Sunnyvale one. The closest finished projects are in Los Altos and Cupertino, shown above with their towns.

Do you come out to look at the deck before quoting?

Yes. The visit is free: we measure, look at the frame and the site, and send a written proposal — decking system, framing, stairs, railings, delivery, disposal, assumptions and exclusions. If you want a number before anyone comes out, the calculator gives a range from our published rates.

Is there a minimum project size?

For a new deck or a full replacement on a low deck: 150 sq ft in redwood, composite or hardwood, 200 sq ft in pressure-treated wood. When the deck is 5 ft or more above the ground or hard to reach, 200 and 250 sq ft. On a hillside or multi-level deck, 300 sq ft. Refinishing starts at 300 sq ft with the stairs included, and stairs on their own start at five steps.

Do you fix tiled balconies?

No. A tiled balcony over plywood and leaks under the tile are waterproofing work. We build and rebuild decks, stairs, railings and pergolas.
