Behind this modern house there was an old, dark wood deck with tired steps, a stretch of lawn, and the pool equipment sat in an old wooden box by the fence.
We replaced the old deck with a low new one along the whole back of the house, in TimberTech Prime+ Coconut Husk with hidden Concealoc fasteners, about 620 sq ft, and steps down to the yard. The planters are built into the deck itself: raised boxes framed with the structure and clad in the same TimberTech boards, so the greenery sits at seat height and the deck reads as one piece instead of a platform with pots on it. By the pool we added a second, 100 sq ft deck with a curved edge that follows the patio.
The pool equipment now lives in a custom enclosure clad in the same composite boards: slatted walls let the equipment breathe, the lid lifts on gas struts and a side panel swings open, so service is easy and the equipment is out of sight. It matches the deck, so it looks like part of the design, not something to hide. Over the seating area we set three steel posts in concrete, filled them with concrete inside for extra stiffness, and installed shade sails between them.
The concrete patio and pavers were done by another contractor; the deck, planters, enclosure and sail posts are ours.
