The old deck was gray, flat and closed in. It worked as a floor and nothing else.
We rebuilt the structure from the ground up: new beams, new joists, new footings. The surface is Eva-Last Apex Plus in Chestnut Cedar — 480 sq ft of composite that holds its color through Bay Area summers. Along the edge, 54 linear feet of powder-coated aluminum picket railing.
Over the main section we framed a 250 sq ft redwood pergola with a clear Suntuf polycarbonate roof: the rain and UV stay out, the light comes through, so the deck never feels covered.
