The house sits in the woods, and its deck, up at second-story level, had worn gray boards, tired steps and a white railing that no longer fit the setting.
We took off the old decking, repaired the raised framing underneath and laid 300 sq ft of new Construction Common redwood, with new steps down to the pavers. Everything was finished with Penofin oil, which brings out the warm red of the wood.
Along the edge we built 77 feet of redwood cable railing: pressure-treated posts, a redwood top rail and horizontal cables that keep the forest view open.
